‘Intolerant’ of groundwater contamination, NM sues Air Force over PFAS pollution

In a lawsuit against the U.S. Air Force, New Mexico alleges the military isn’t doing enough to contain or clean up dangerous chemicals that have seeped into the groundwater below two Air Force bases in the state.

On Tuesday, New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas and the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) filed a complaint in federal district court, asking a judge to compel the Air Force to act on, and fund, cleanup at the two bases near Clovis and Alamogordo.

“We have significant amounts of PFAS in the groundwater, under both Cannon and Holloman Air Force bases,” NMED Secretary James Kenney told NM Political Report.

Pedestrian struck, killed near Gallup by alleged impaired driver

MCKINLEY COUNTY – New Mexico State Police investigated a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on New Mexico State Road 118, near mile post 27 east of Gallup, early Tuesday evening.





The initial investigation indicated that a 2003 Dodge van driven by Frank Adrian Jiron, 39, of Albuquerque was traveling west on SR 118.  For unknown reasons, Tommy Mariano, 85, of Crownpoint was walking in the roadway. The Dodge van struck Mariano, who sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Board of Commissioners approves resolution to declare McKinley County a Second Amendment Sanctuary

Unanimous decision made during a special meeting

The crowd filled the third floor meeting room of the McKinley County Courthouse to capacity, pouring out into the lobby and first floor rotunda.

People had gathered to hear a reading of and voice either their support or opposition to a resolution presented to the Board of Commissioners that would preserve the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution and declare McKinley County a Second Amendment Sanctuary County.

City Council approves resolutions for improvements to golf course

The Fox Run Golf Course took center stage during the Gallup City Council’s regular meeting.

Three items that pertain to the course were listed on the meeting agenda, covering two areas of improvements to the course.

 

COURSE CONDITIONS

During the 2018 monsoon season, the golf course had issues with drainage around cart paths on certain holes. Water depth ranged from three to 10 inches on these holes, often rendering them unplayable for the customers.

The course also experienced major flooding on Sept. 6, with water depth around seven to nine feet on certain holes and compromising the integrity of the cart path near hole 18.
