Lujan Grisham announces special session starting July 18

SANTA FE — Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham announced on April 17 she will call the New Mexico Legislature into a special session on July 18 to take up additional public safety protections that New Mexicans demand.

The governor said she decided to convene a special session to allow lawmakers to finish what they started during the 30-day session. Based on discussions with legislative leadership, the governor anticipates that the special session will be completed within several days.

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. — The 25th Navajo Nation Council convened at the capital of the Navajo Nation for the opening day of the 2024 Spring Council Session on April 15.

“On behalf of the 25th Navajo Nation Council, I am pleased to welcome everyone to the Navajo Nation and the 2024 Spring Session. Navajo Council calls for finalized capital improvement plan for FY2025

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. — The 25th Navajo Nation Council's Budget and Finance Committee received a report from the Navajo Nation Division of Community Development regarding the Nation's Capital Improvement Plan on April 2.

Law and Order Committee supports legislation to amend rules of order for standing commitees

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. — The Law and Order Committee convened their regular meeting on April 1  to discuss concerns about crime in border towns that impact nearby Navajo communities.

LOC member Council Delegate Herman Daniels Jr. (Tsah Bii Kin, Navajo Mountain, Shonto, Oljato) highlighted issues such as children playing in unsafe abandoned buildings, particularly in Halchita, Utah and increasing incidents of dog attacks on people and livestock.

“Halchita, Utah is a small community, in the middle of the housing there is an abandoned DNA building, the building is run down, burned and unsafe and there are children who go in there every night,” he said.

Navajo Council extends Fiscal Recovery Fund support deadline

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. — The 25th Navajo Nation Council recently passed Legislation No. 0067-24, which will amend and extend the obligation deadline for Navajo Nation’s Fiscal Recovery Funding for central support and regulatory services to Dec. 31, if the resolution is signed into law by the Navajo Nation President.

The legislation, passed on March 26, will amend Section Seven of Resolution No. CJY-41-21, which was signed into law in July 2021 and allocated over $1 billion in American Rescue Plan Act funding for various purposes and also allocated 10% of the ARPA funds for central and regulatory services to help carry out the expenditure of the ARPA funds.
