Man sentenced to 30 years in shooting death of Navajo Police Officer

ALBUQUERQUE — Kirby Cleveland was sentenced in federal court for the shooting death of Navajo Police Officer Houston James Largo in March 2017. Largo was shot on March 11. He died on March 12.

Largo responded to a domestic violence call in Prewitt. He was 27 years old at the time.

When a gray Chrysler was seen parked at 1710 Elm Cir. with a reportedly intoxicated driver, Gallup Police Officer Justin Benally was dispatched to the area.

The driver backed his vehicle into Benally’s unit and began to leave. Officer Benally followed.

He was located near Mile Marker 16 of Highway 602. When Benally made contact with the driver, he was identified as Kerley Biggs, 30 at the time.

The punishing heat wave that has baked much of western Canada up to the Arctic and down to the northwestern U.S. is being made more intense by hotter temperatures at night in areas that normally cool down after sunset. RMCH goes on 'divert'

Gallup Indian Medical Center will be the destination of patients who would generally go to Rehoboth McKinley Christian Health Care Services tonight.

Metro Dispatch put out a notice at 6:17 pm, that RMCH is on divert. They said the hospital placed the call, but did not tell the Sun the reason this action was taken.

The divert order means RMCH will not be accepting any patients until 6 am July 16 except for those suffering a stroke or suspected stroke.

All other patients en route to RMCH will be diverted to GIMC.

Navajo Police searching for convicted felon

SHIPROCK, N.M. - Navajo Police Department Shiprock District is currently attempting to locate convicted felon, Kendale Johnson, 31, who is wanted on a federal arrest warrant for possession of a firearm. Johnson is also a person of interest involving multiple car thefts and home invasions that has occurred within the Shiprock police district.

On July 14 at about 8:25 pm, the Shiprock Police District was engaged in two separate vehicle pursuits in Shiprock, N.M. Johnson is believed to have been in one of the vehicles. The pursuits ended with the occupants abandoning the vehicles, resulting in a foot search of the area which led to the apprehension of five individuals.
