Lynx hit well, can’t maintain momentum

The Rehoboth Lynx ultimately got hot at the plate, but couldn’t sustain the offensive flow and dropped the second game of a baseball doubleheader 13-9 on April 28 to the Magdalena Steers in a tight contest played at Ford Canyon Park.

The game was the penultimate game of the 2018 season for both teams. Rehoboth is in its second consecutive season of varsity baseball, since doing away with the sport several years ago.

“We got some momentum going, but couldn’t keep it up,” Rehoboth head coach Anthony Sanchez said. “We played hard both games.”

The 2A Steers (9-10, 3-3) jumped out to a 5-0 lead at the start of the third inning behind...

MHS scores early, often in 5A rivalry win

Marc Rios, Brandon Vidal, Brett McFarland, and Jason Cordova each scored runs for the Miyamura Patriots in the first inning, leading the Pats to an 18-3 victory over cross-town rival Gallup April 21 in a varsity baseball game played at Gallup High School.

If those four runs weren’t evidence enough that the Patriots were for real, the superstar lance Evans sealed the early onslaught with a home run in the same inning. All in all, Miyamura (12-8, 5-2) scored 12 runs in the opening inning. Miyamura head coach Brian Silva said he believes the Patriots must win two of the final three games to take the District-1, 5A title. Silva praised his...
