NAMBÉ, N.M. — I am deeply disappointed by the decision to dissolve the New Mexico Local Government, Land Grants & Cultural Affairs Committee. The representation of land grants, acequias, traditional, and rural communities must always be at the forefront of New Mexico public policy. They are a critical part of the heart, soul, and history of our state. These communities also represent the economic potential that our future holds, but only if we keep them as a top priority.
The Mountain Pact is thrilled with the administration’s action … to institute a 20-year ban on oil and gas leasing within a 10-mile radius around the Greater Chaco Landscape. Chaco Culture National Historical Park is a UNESCO world heritage site and the sacred ancestral homeland to many Indigenous communities. We are grateful to the Biden administration for working to protect the cultural and spiritual importance of this landscape from short-term extraction and development.
At no other time of the year are we more generous than during the holiday season, as we shower those we love with gifts and make donations to those in need.
