Alleged rapist wanted by Sheriff

THOREAU – A Prewitt, N.M. man is wanted for rape – in legal terms – two counts of second degree criminal sexual penetration, aggravated battery, and two counts of intimidation of a witness.

The reported rape occurred on Aug. 4, in Thoreau, N.M. And McKinley County Sheriff's Office investigators are looking for Jeremiah Loley, 25.

According to the arrest warrant, the victim was returning home from grocery shopping with her child when she noticed a maroon vehicle parked a few doors down. She placed her child in the house, and went back to her car to retrieve her groceries when she was confronted by...

Chad Morgan was booked into the McKinley County Detention Center Aug. 11.

THOREAU – McKinley County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's assistance in finding Chad Morgan.

MCSO Inv. Anthony Ashley said an warrant was issued for the arrest of Morgan, 22, on July 11 for criminal damage to the Security Finance Loan office, 64 Highway 371, in Thoreau, N.M. June 26.

The previous day, on July 10, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Morgan for burglary and larceny to Thoreau Water Dept. building at 61 First Ave. He told investigators he hit that location on June 23.

But since his interview with MCSO, Morgan has been laying low, and is now a wanted man.

Man found dead with stab wounds ID'd

Gallup Police Department detectives identified the Native American man found dead on the west side of Silvermine Manufacturing, 303 E. Highway 66 on Aug. 8, as Nelson Thompson, 66 of Lower Greasewood, Ariz.

He was homeless, GPD Capt. Marinda Spencer said.

As a result of his injuries, police are asking for the public's help with any information that may lead to a suspect, and are investigating the case as a homicide. Spencer said detectives are also investigating whether Thompson was assaulted at the scene or dumped at the location.

An autopsy will be performed, and police are combing the Second Street corridor for clues in to the man's death.

Massive fire razes two structures north of Gallup

Smoke and flames filled the skies over Gallup on Aug. 1, as two structures – one behind and one next to Gas Max on 516 U.S. Highway 491, caught fire shortly before 7 pm.

McKinley County Attorney Doug Decker said in either building hay, fireworks, and a variety of oils, including ethanol, fueled the flames that burned well into the night.

“It’s not pretty like the fireworks we see on Independence Day,” Decker said. “It takes forever to put out a hay fire.”

Gas Max employees were safely evacuated, and the station sustained some minor damages.

“The gas station had some heat damage, but it’s still operable,” Decker said.
