Mayor Louie Bonaguidi is hours from taking the helm in Gallup and already he has told the Gallup Sun that Gallup is going into a three-day lock down.

In a conversation with Bonaguidi, he said Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has decided to lock Gallup down for three days.  The actual start time of the lock down has not been made public, but the governor's director of communications told the Sun that the lock down will be announced on May 1 and is expected to start on May 1 and continue through the weekend.

Six major highways into Gallup will also be locked down and staffed with state police officers. The highways have not been identified at this hour.

SANTA FE - Gov. Michelle Lujan-Grisham met reporters on April 24 to update the public on how the COVID-19 pandemic is affecting our state.

In her most recent briefing, the governor shared statistics on COVID-19 related cases and hospitalizations, unemployment numbers and keeping restrictions in place to protect public health.

“Please, stay home, so that we can recover in every facet. That’s what’s important to everybody,” Lujan-Grisham said.

Valentina Blackhorse, 28, of Kayenta, Arizona lost her life to COVID-19 April 23. Blackhorse, the mother of a one-year-old girl had a passion for competing in pageants and won the title of Miss Diné College 2011-12 and Miss Western Navajo Nation 2015-16.

She was employed by the Division of Community Development and devoted much of her time to helping the Nation’s 110 chapters.

On April 27, Gallup Police found the city's fifth open field death of the month.

A man’s body was found behind Earl’s Restaurant on East Highway 66 by someone walking in the area.

Gallup Police were called about the discovery at 12:16 pm April 27 and met the witness at the scene.

EMS personnel were dispatched.  The scene was secured.

No information besides gender is known at this time.

The  body will be sent for autopsy.  More details will be provided as they become available.
