The Center for Biological Diversity petitioned the Secretary of the Interior for protection for the Temblor legless lizard on Oct. 20. The lizard, which swims through sand, only survives in four places, one of them is central California’s Kern County, more than 98 percent of which is open to oil and gas development.

“Rampant oil drilling is causing double damage to the legless lizard by destroying habitat and accelerating climate change,” Center conservation advocate Jeff Miller said.

“We can’t continue to allow habitat loss and increased wildfire risk at the hands of fossil fuel developers whose sole concern is profit.”

Navajo man charged in shooting incident

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Ferlando Wadsworth, 38, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, appeared in federal court on Nov. 5 on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, discharging a firearm during a crime of violence and unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Wadsworth will remain in custody pending trial.

According to a criminal complaint, on Oct. 14, Wadsworth allegedly arrived with two associates at a meeting to purchase food stamps from the victims. When the first victim refused to get into a vehicle with Wadsworth and his associates, Wadsworth allegedly exited the vehicle with a shotgun and followed her to the vehicle driven by the second victim.

New supplemental SNAP increases issuing in November

SANTA FE – The New Mexico Human Services Department announced that New Mexico households receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits will once again receive the maximum amount for their household size for the month of November.


Beginning in March 2020, SNAP households that were not already receiving the maximum SNAP benefit amount for their household size received an increase to their benefits to bring them to the maximum amount each month. These increases were made to help reduce food insecurity for New Mexicans during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Attempt to locate issued for Gallup man

Gallup Police Department asks for the public’s help in locating Jonathan Ray Joe.


Joe, 28, is believed to be in the Gallup area. He is estimated to be about 5’10” tall and weigh 220 pounds. There is no information on where he was last seen or wearing, nor where he may have headed.


He is wanted for questioning in a crime that occurred on the east side of Gallup.
