CIBOLA COUNTY - When a motorcyclist got lost and stuck in the mud near Mt. Taylor, it was a helicopter that pulled him out.
It was 7 am on March 8 when the New Mexico State Police Special Operations Aircraft Section was contacted to assist in locating the 40-year-old male who was lost near Mt. Taylor in a wilderness area northeast of Grants, N.M.
The motorcyclist had been out since the prior evening. His cell phone battery had died, and it was reported he did not have proper clothing for the weather and might be without food and water.

Gallup Police Officer Iris Pinero was dispatched to the area of the 200 block of East Coal Avenue in connection with a driver passed out behind the wheel.
When she got to the scene, she said she found a car with heavy front end damage, Jaqueline Smith was behind the wheel passed out. It took several attempts to wake her up.
When Smith, 46, of Ganado, exited the vehicle, Pinero said she staggered to keep her balance. She was asked about the damage to the car and replied, “What damage.”
She denied she had been in an accident and although police searched the area to try and find an accident site, none was found.

Gallup Patrolman Aaron Baldonado was dispatched to a residence on Linda Drive in reference to a female suspect throwing rocks at windows.
Baldonado made contact with the suspect, identified as Jessica Roanhorse, 28, of Flagstaff, Ariz., who began to walk away from the scene and became confrontational when Baldonado approached her. She appeared to have blood around her left eye, but did not answer when asked what happened to her.
After Baldonado was able to place Roanhorse in his unit, he made contact with the calling party, Marqual Lake, Roanhorse’s boyfriend. Lake said Roanhorse had been drinking before she arrived at his residence...

Pedestrian Fatally Struck on Interstate 40 in Cibola County
Cibola County, NM - On March 18 at about 6:29 am, the New Mexico State Police investigated a fatality. A pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle on the on-ramp of Exit 72 off Interstate 40, west of Grants.
The initial investigation indicated a 2006 Toyota was merging onto Interstate 40 westbound from the on-ramp of Exit 72. For reasons still under investigation, a pedestrian, identified as Herman Padilla, 39 of Albuquerque, who was a passenger in a parked Commercial Motor Vehicle on the on-ramp, was struck by the Toyota. Padilla succumbed to fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator.
