A McKinley County Sheriff’s Officer stopped to assist Darold Johnson, 33, of Rehoboth, with vehicle trouble but ended up arresting him for DWI.

Deputy Savannah Benally was driving near mile marker 2 on Hassler Valley Road when she saw a blue Nissan passenger car parked in the westbound lane. Benally pulled behind the vehicle and stopped, suspecting the vehicle was having mechanical problems.

Alexander M.M. Uballez, United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico, and Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office announced that Myles Delando Luciano was sentenced to 46 months in prison Jan. 24.

Luciano, 27, of Las Cruces, pleaded guilty to one count of interference with commerce by threats or violence on May 1, 2023.

In his plea agreement, Luciano admitted that on July 27, 2022, he and Joshua Lopez wrongfully obtained property from Lowe’s Home Improvement by taking the property without paying for it using the threat of force, violence, and fear. UPDATE: As of Feb. 15, Monica has been found and is safe.

The Gallup Police is asking for the public's help in locating a woman named Monica Terry.

Monica is five feet and one inch tall and weighs about 140 pounds. She has brown eyes and short brown hair.

She was last seen in December near the McDonald's North in Gallup. It is not known what she was wearing at the time of her disappearance, nor what direction she traveled.

Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of Monica Terry is asked to contact the Gallup Police Department at (505) 722-2231 or dial 911.

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Judiciary launched the Rural Justice Initiative Clerkship Program on Jan. 18 to help provide more legal services providers in rural New Mexico.

The program will create four paid law clerk positions in Farmington, Aztec or Gallup, Clovis and Portales under the guidance and mentorship of state judicial district Chief Judges.

“The Rural Clerkship Program addresses the dire need for lawyers in rural areas,” New Mexico Supreme Court Chief Justice C. Shannon Bacon said. “We’re creating career opportunities for new lawyers who can provide more access to justice in our rural parts of the state.”
