A man admitted to Gallup Detox faced additional trouble when he was found with a small bag containing an illegal substance.

Gallup Officer Cindy Romancito was informed by a Public Service Officer that Wade Wilson, 26, of Window Rock, Ariz. had been admitted into Gallup Detox when one of the staff discovered a small bag of clear crystals he had.

The bag was taken to Gallup Police Department and the substance was tested and confirmed to be methamphetamine. The report stated Wilson would be summonsed into Magistrate Court for carrying a prohibited controlled substance. Wilson remained at Gallup Detox following a breath sample of .32.

Investigation into officer-involved shooting

Knocking on the wall and noises inside a room at the Comfort Inn at 1440 W. Maloney Ave. around midnight Jan. 19 led to a response from the Gallup Police Department.

An employee at the motel said the sounds seemed to be coming from Room 321. He told police he saw bullet holes in the hallway near the door.

Officers attempted to contact the man staying in the room, but received no response. They were then informed that there might be a second person in the room.

The team breached the door and found Michael Lon Hubbard, 52 of Haltom City, Tex. who refused to obey officers’ commands.

Holiday break-in spoils the spirit

Rhonda Quintana, one of the owners of Quintana’s Music got an unwelcome notification early in the morning Jan. 17. It was an alarm from Quintana’s Music Center at 112 W. Coal Ave.

The notification of a break-in came too late to save the two signature model guitars that were stolen from the store — the third and fourth such instruments stolen in the past three weeks.

Quintana told the Sun that a similar break-in occurred Dec. 27.

Considering the clues she has to work from, she believes the late Sunday night-early Monday morning during the holiday season may account for part of the situation.

Vehicle safety inspection leads to drug seizure at Gallup Port of Entry

McKinley County, NM – Two men were arrested when New Mexico State Police located over 500 pounds of illegal substances while searching a commercial motor vehicle at the Gallup Port of Entry on Jan. 21



A New Mexico State Police officer conducted a safety inspection about 7:57 am on a 2012 Volvo Commercial Motor Vehicle at the Gallup Port of Entry. As the officer conducted a safety inspection on the CMV, the officer observed seventeen black duffel bags, three cardboard boxes, two plastic totes, and a trash bag within the CMV’s cab and trailer. The officer detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the trailer.
