WAITS to take action

The Gallup City Council opened their Feb. 25 meeting by hearing a presentation of a feasibility study for a new regional animal shelter.

Public Works Director Stan Henderson said the council previously authorized feasibility studies to assess the practicality of a proposed plan for facilities the city needed, and the animal shelter is the fourth study.

Joe Gallegos, vice president of Huitt-Zolars, Inc., an Albuquerque-based architecture firm, and Larry McDonald, one of the firm’s architects, were at the meeting to give the presentation.

Brings in nearly $7,000

Rehoboth McKinley Christian Health Care Services hosted a Valentine’s Day dinner and dance for Gallup’s Battered Families Services. The fundraiser turned out 100 residents and netted the non-profit organization close to $7,000.

Couples and singles swayed to the R&B mixes of Marvis Wynn, aka DJ Marvelous, a KGLP disc jockey and feasted on Beef Wellington, salads and Valentine’s desserts at the Valentine’s Day event held at the Gallup Knights of Columbus Hall.

Bikers, Fire Department help out

Rehoboth McKinley Christian Health Care Services is holding its Auxiliary Blood Drive on Feb. 14 from 8 am-1 pm at the RMCH Third Floor Solarium at 1901 Red Rock Drive, Gallup. The drive began on Feb. 13.

The hospital is requesting type O and Rh Negative types A- and B- which are currently in shorter supply. The drive is also looking for donations of double red cells which carry oxygen to organs and tissue. When they donate double red cells, volunteers can safely donate enough for two red cell transfusions. This type of blood is needed by patients having surgery, organ transplants or cancer treatment. Heavy metal band Blacktop Mojo shreds downtown

There’s nothing like kicking off the weekend by doing something you love and for me it’s ending the work week by losing myself in music. Depending on my mood, whatever the genre, music does it for me. Experiencing new music is always a plus, too. That opportunity presented itself as I and some friends got the chance to check out a new band called Blacktop Mojo.
