New Public Health Order calls for booster shots for workers

SANTA FE—The latest emergency public health order issued by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham will call for many workers to get booster shots when they become eligible.

The order was issued Dec. 2 and came as the World Health Organization expressed serious concern about the Omicron variant which was newly-identified and is still being studied to determine its transmissibility.

Although experts caution that much remains unknown about the new variant, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has amplified its recommendation on COVID-19 booster shots, saying all vaccinated adults “should” receive one either six months after completing a Pfizer or Moderna series and two months...

Hybrid Salmon

Canadian officials say a new hybrid species of Coho and Chinook salmon has been found between Vancouver Island and the British Columbia mainland, possibly the result of climate change. Andres Araujo at Fisheries and Oceans Canada says the hybrids look like a mix of the two species, and genetic markers confirm that they are indeed hybrids. Tree lighting tonight

The Navajo Nation is holding its Third Annual Christmas Tree lighting ceremony and luminaria display at 4-5:30 pm Dec. 15 with the 24th Navajo Nation Council and Council Speaker Seth Damon. The lighting ceremony will take place at 5:15 pm. The first 100 children will receive a gift from Santa.

Families are asked to follow all health guidelines and wear face masks.

Crews working on power outages

Electric crews are out this morning addressing new and ongoing power outages.

Shiprock crews say there are several downed poles that need replacement. Power is out in Shiprock, south to Sheepsprings, Toadlena, Newcomb, and Burnham.

Isolated outages have been reported in:

• Crystal/Narbona Pass

• Hunters points

• Montezuma Creek, Desert Creek

• Red Mesa South area/Sweetwater

• Nenahenzad Pipeline Road area (SR)

• Beclabeto area ½ W of Store, hse 272

• Ganado Lake area

There are ongoing outages in Ojo Amarillo and the NAPI area; Dennehotso.

Traffic light work closes Ford Drive

Ford Drive will be closed to through trafdfic from U. S. Highway 66 to Aztec Avenue while work is conducted on area traffic lights.

The intersection that is closed will be a three-way stop. Drivers are asked to seek an alternate route.

The City of Gallup reports that work is expected to be complete by 5 pm Dec. 17.
