More roadwork slated for Second Street

Gallup drivers may have noticed a section of Second Street between Aztec Avenue and Coal Avenue has been closed several times in the past week. City of Gallup Public Works Director Stan Henderson said there is no reconstruction happening on this section of Second Street.

“The city, along with CenturyLink, Comcast, and Sacred Winds, are undergrounding the fiber optic from First Street to Fifth Street,” he said Nov. 21.

‘It’s time to get patriotic’

“I pledge allegiance to the flag…”

Those were the words of David Cuellar as he led the guests at Courthouse Square in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance Nov. 11 at Gallup Courthouse Square.

The Gallup McKinley Veterans Committee concluded a morning of remembrance of both past and present veterans with a ceremony at Courthouse Square.

Cuellar, founder of GMVC and Veterans Helping Veterans, voiced his appreciation for all the guests in attendance.

“It’s time to get patriotic,” Cuellar said in his introduction.

The Pledge of Allegiance was followed by the Rehoboth Christian School Choir singing the National Anthem.

Contracts for 2020 season up in the air

The Gallup City Council heard a presentation about the 2019 Summer Nightly Indian Dances and the plans going forward for the 2020 season at their Nov. 12 meeting.

Bill Lee, CEO of Gallup-McKinley County Chamber of Commerce, gave the presentation on the 2019 season to the council. According to the information he provided at the meeting, this year saw over 19,000 guests attend the dances during their 99-day span. There was an average of 202 visitors a night to watch 13 different dance groups.

However, the total number of guests is a drop from 2018, which had over 24,000 guests, and that is a further drop from the highest attendance in the past...

Clean-up board seeks corporate sponsorship

The efforts to clean up Gallup and keep it clean are year-round, with numerous community events organized to get residents involved.

The Keep Gallup Clean and Beautiful Board discussed a number of clean-up initiatives and collaborations during the Nov. 12 meeting at Octavia Fellin Public Library.

But the stand out item was the discussion about Gallup Walmart, and the company’s seeming absence from KGCB’s efforts to tidy up the town.

Board member Greg Kirk suggested the board approach the Gallup Walmart and ask for help cleaning up the amount of litter in town.

CHURCH ROCK, N.M. - Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez and Vice President Myron Lizer were joined by Rhino Health, LLC, CEO Mark Lee while they signed into law Resolution CO-31-19, which appropriates approximately $19 million from the Síhasin Fund to the Navajo Nation Division of Economic Development Project Development Department for the Church Rock Industrial Park Project Phase Two, and adopts the Church Rock Industrial Park Project Fund Expenditure Plan.
