LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Sen. Jeff Steinborn, D-N.M., the Chair of New Mexico’s Legislative Radioactive and Hazardous Materials Interim Committee, sent letters April 3 to Gov. Susana Martinez, Attorney General Hector Balderas, the federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and the state superintendent of insurance requesting answers to concerns about the State’s preparedness for safely handling a proposed nuclear waste storage facility in Lea County.

Operators of the planned facility seek to transport and store spent nuclear fuel from nuclear power plants and other high level nuclear waste from across the U.S.

TSAILE, Ariz. — Running track and field in high school was nothing short of success for Bruce Bradway, a U.S. Air Force veteran and currently a professor of psychology at Diné College.

Bradway, who is originally from Muncie, Ind., was inducted into the Daleville High School Athletic Hall of Fame in Muncie, where he was a member of the school’s track and field team. Bradway ran the mile relay—and set a school record, which is still considered one of the fastest in the history of the school.

ALBUQUERQUE – Alton Jay Cowboy, 48, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation who resides in Crownpoint, N.M., pled guilty April 5, in federal court in Albuquerque, to violating the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.





SORNA, also known as the Adam Walsh Protection and Safety Act, requires that a convicted sex offender register in each jurisdiction where the offender resides, where the offender is employed, or where the offender is a student, and that the sex offender maintain current registrations.

The March 27 regular meeting of the Gallup City Council was conducted with three of the four city councilors. Councilor Yogash Kumar was excused from the proceedings.

The meeting began with the presentation of commendations and awards to winners of the 2018 Water and Energy Awareness Day T-shirt design contest.
