The Gallup City Council heard a presentation about their FY19 annual financial audit report by the Albuquerque-based accounting firm Hinkle and Landers, PC during their Feb. 18 meeting.

Farley Vener, President and Managing Shareholder of Hinkle and Landers, gave the presentation.

Vener said the City of Gallup’s accounting practices were consistent, and several adjustments were provided by the city to Hinkle and Landers as requested. There were also no significant difficulties with performing the audit.

“Overall, everything was just very smooth,” Vener said.

Shortened Summer Nightly Indian Dances schedule set

New concert series planned after dances, Ceremonial

Last November, the Gallup City Council heard a presentation from the Gallup-McKinley County Chamber of Commerce about potentially shortening the season for the Summer Nightly Indian Dances in 2020.

This proposal came after the financial results showed a drop-off in visitors and revenue after the Gallup Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial started in the first part of August.

Tourism and Marketing Manager Jennifer Lazarz presented the contract to the council during their Feb. 18 meeting. The contract states the upcoming dance season will run for 75 days starting May 25 and will cost $55,000 in Lodgers Tax funds.

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. - On Jan. 30, 24th Navajo Nation Council member Council Delegate Amber Kanazbah Crotty met with the Missing & Murdered Diné Relatives Working Group to continue moving projects forward that would directly support Navajo communities and promote increased awareness.

Crotty is the 24th Navajo Nation Council Delegate for the communities of Beclabito, Cove, Gadii’áhí/Tó Ko’í, Red Valley, Tóh Haltsooi, Toadlena/Two Grey Hills, and Tsé Ałnáozti’í.

Expands /ensures access to insulin for New Mexicans

SANTA FE -  House Bill 292, Prescription Drug Cost Sharing Act, a bold step toward reducing the high prices of prescription drugs, passed the House floor Feb. 14 with a 61-2 vote. By capping costs for insulin to treat Diabetes, this legislation helps New Mexicans afford life-saving treatments. As many as 220,000 New Mexicans suffer from Diabetes and it is the sixth leading cause of death in the state.

House Bill 292 which mandates that insulin be delivered at more affordable prices to all New Mexicans is sponsored by Rep. Micaela Lara Cadena, D-Mesilla, and Rep.Daniel Ivey-Soto, D-Albuquerque.
