Man charged with third DWI, open container

Valentine’s Day turned into a DWI charge for Randall Chee, 25, of Gallup.

McKinley County Sheriff’s Deputy Terence Willie was driving eastbound on N.M. State Hwy. 118 approaching south Fifth Street when he saw a green Ford F-150 swerving in and out of the left lane.

ASSAULT WITH TWEEZERS

Gallup, Jan. 27

A man was charged with assault with a deadly weapon after police allege he tried to stab a security guard at a Safeway store with a pair of tweezers.

Officer Victor Madrid was dispatched at 4:58 pm to the Safeway at U.S. Highway 491 in reference to a weapon call. The caller stated a man wearing a dark jacket and white shoes threatened him with something sharp and then he left, walking toward the Big Lots store south of the Safeway.

Madrid arrived and discovered a man matching that description walking in that direction. He put Ryan Roy Chee, 38, address unknown, in the back of his police car and drove to the Safeway, where the security guard...

Body discovered at stadium

Police, medical and fire personnel were called out Feb.14 to the Gallup Public School Stadium, 1000 S. Grandview, after a passerby made a report to 911 about what he thought was a body to the east of the stadium.

Authorities confirmed the body was that of DeWayne Freeland, 55, of Fort Wingate, N. M.

Gallup Police Captain Erin Toadlena Pablo told the Gallup Sun that the family has been notified. There is no cause of death at this time, however no foul play is suspected.

Results from the Office of the Medical Investigator are pending.

 

Gallup man takes NMSP on 120 mph chase

Anthony Palacios, 45, of Gallup, faces multiple charges following a chase that reached more than 120 miles per hour in the early morning hours on Interstate 40.

Palacios faces a felony charge of aggravated fleeing a law enforcement officer, along with reckless driving, driving while license suspended, concealing identity, speeding, driving on a divided highway, driving on roadways laned for traffic, vehicles entering stop or yield intersection, failure to use proper turn signals, possession of marijuana up to half an ounce, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Churchrock man charged with abuse, vehicular harm

Octavius Dan Atele, 25, of Churchrock,  N.M., was charged with great bodily harm by vehicle, child abuse and DWI with a minor, following a crash that resulted in him and his one-month-old baby being airlifted to the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque on Feb. 8.

According to reports, Metro Dispatch received a call at about 1:18 pm following an accident with serious injuries caused by a possible drunk driver in a red Chevy Trax. Deputies Terence Willie and Paul Davis arrived at the scene, on State Highway 566 at the 4.1 mile marker.
