Failure to use his headlights led to Alexander Pinto, 31, of Zuni, being arrested and charged with his third DWI.

Gallup Police Officer  Matthew Strandy met Pinto driving without his headlights near the intersection of Highway 602 and Aztec Avenue and initiated a traffic stop. After Strandy observed Pinto behaving as if he was intoxicated, he put out a call for assistance. Officer Ryan Boucher arrived a short time later.

Boucher spoke to Pinto, who stated he consumed two cans of Budweiser prior to driving. Pinto showed signs of intoxication including bloodshot eyes and reeked of alcohol.

ALBUQUERQUE – A Bureau of Indian Affairs Police Officer allegedly sexually abused a child, and he is now facing up to 15 years in prison.

Dexter Whiskers, 43, of Mescalero, N.M., and an enrolled member of the San Juan Southern Paiute Tribe, made an initial appearance in federal court on April 15 facing a charge of sexual abuse of a minor in Indian Country. Whiskers’s preliminary and detention hearing was on April 20.

The name of a New Mexico State Police Officer has now been released after a shooting that happened on April 16.

On April 16, 2022, the New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau was called to investigate an officer-involved shooting on Interstate 40, milepost 64, near Prewitt, N.M.

Officers learned that around 11:56 am, New Mexico State Police Officer Corey Newman was dispatched to the area for a welfare check on a male slumped over the steering wheel of a brown BMW passenger car. The officer arrived and made contact with the male, who was later identified as Oliver Ashley Toledo Saldivar, 26, of North Carolina.  Unbeknownst to the officer, Saldivar was the suspect in a homicide...

A Gallup police officer is currently on administrative leave after hitting a minor.

On Dec. 5, around 1:08 am, McKinley County Sheriff’s deputy Terrence Willie was sent to 607 Pillar Ave. in Gamerco in reference to a domestic dispute. The caller explained to the Metro Dispatch that a man, Justin Benally, 29, had hit his young cousin, who is a minor.

The caller told Metro Dispatch that Benally was intoxicated.

When Willie and MCSO Sgt. Johnson Lee arrived at the scene, Willie spoke to two witnesses, Benally’s mother and father.
