Navajo woman sentenced for federal child abuse conviction

ALBUQUERQUE – Kelly James, 35, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation who resides in Albuquerque was sentenced Oct. 11, in federal court to three years of probation for her conviction on a misdemeanor child abuse charge.  In addition to the mandatory conditions of her probation, James will be required to complete substance abuse counseling, childcare classes and refrain from the use of alcohol.

James was arrested in May 2017, on an indictment charging her with engaging in child abuse by operating a motor vehicle recklessly on Dec. 8, 2016, on the Isleta Pueblo in Valencia County, N.M.

FBI Alert: FBI offers $1,000 for information on suspicious death

The FBI is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information regarding the suspicious death of Alan Jim.

On Feb. 7, Jim’s body was found in the southbound lane of County Road 7900, approximately 6.3 miles south of Highway 550 in the Chaco Canyon area of New Mexico.

Autopsy results indicate Jim died of blunt force trauma to his head and upper body.

Anyone with information regarding this death is asked to contact the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office at (505) 889-1300.

The Navajo Nation Division of Public Safety is assisting with the investigation.

Dope house down: Narcotics task force arrest four in Gamerco

The Region One Narcotics Task Force, utilizing five police officers from the Gallup Police Department, and one agent from the McKinley County Sheriff’s Office swept through a residence at 907 Cascade on Sept. 28, and arrested four people involved in the drug trade.

The operation is the end result of a month-long investigation.

The Sheriff’s Office in particular is very concerned about the increase in drug use in the county.

As Undersheriff Paul Lucero said, “Tell everyone that if they are going to deal drugs in McKinley County, we’ll be knocking on their door.”
