Local players bring American history, Shakespeare comedies to life

Something has been missing at the El Morro Theatre for some time – theatrical plays that is, featuring local actors.

This weekend the El Morro presents an encore presentation of “The Complete History of America (Abridged).” It’s not that the players can capture 241 years into a short hour or so, but they must make every minute count, punching up the level of comedic timing and delivery.

And tickets are only $5. There will be a performance at ArtsCrawl 7 pm on May 13. Bring the family. Kids 12 and under get in free.

Over 160 players attend the April 8 event, with 8 hours of competition. Kids from the Garcia’s Judo Club came away winners, or a bit more experienced from this tournament.

Dine Hoghaan Bii Development, Inc. collaborated with the Vet Center of Farmington, Workforce Connection of New Mexico, and United Healthcare for the “Dress for Success” workshop at Rehoboth McKinley Christian Hospital May 2.

JCPenney brought a mobile fashion show to the event to demonstrate to participants how to dress for an interview. Afterwards, participants received some clothing to help get them started in their search for a new job. There we’re countless other local sponsors involved in the feel-good event that lasted for more than four hours.

Reflections on a war hero grandfather

Wednesday, April 19, 2017 marked the 100th Anniversary of my grandfather Paul Emerson Riege enlisting into the United States Marine Corps to fight during WWI.

With our nation having different events marking the 100th Anniversary of our official involvement in WWI, I am very proud of my family’s military history and in the fact that my grandfather served in the most decorated unit in the Marine Corps History – the 1st Battalion/5th Marines or better known as “The Fighting 5th.”

One of (if not the most important) battles that this storied unit (along with my grandfather) fought in is known as the “Battle of Belleau Wood.”

There is a great book out on this battle...
