3rd Annual Veterans Summit & Stand Down

CHURCH ROCK - The Military Support Group Planning Committee and the City of Gallup hosted the 3rd Annual Veterans Summit and 5th Annual Gallup Veterans Stand Down at Red Rock Park Oct. 5- 6.

The two-day gathering brought together veterans, families, and veterans programs to assist and support veterans’ issues.

This year was different from the previous Veterans Summit. The City of Gallup and additional veterans’ entities collaborated with the Military Support Group Planning Committee to combine both functions.

Gallup Coffee Company was one of several establishments that teamed up to bring the community of Gallup together to join in on a night of special offerings and entertainment, hosted by downtown businesses.

The American Bar, Camille’s Sidewalk Café, Coal Street Pub, Sammy C’s, and the El Morro Theatre all took part in Gallup’s Downtown Night Out Sept. 30.

Camille’s Café honors Lincoln Elementary teacher with first award for 2017-18

Rachel Ortega, a kindergarten teacher at Lincoln Elementary School, has been named the Camille’s Sidewalk Café Teacher of the Month for September. Each month, folks  write down the name of their favorite teacher, and say why they have the best teacher. They then put into a jar that is established at the café.

In recognition of this tribute, Ortega was presented with a gift basket from Camille’s Manager Tisha Boyd. Boyd was content with their first Teacher of the Month award that was gifted to Ortega.
