The McKinley Community Health Alliance celebrated its twentieth anniversary Jan. 10 at the New Mexico Cancer Center. For two decades, the alliance has collaborated with various entities in McKinley County, Navajo Nation and Zuni Pueblo to address health disparities across the region.

Starting in 1998, the MCHA began with the mission of promoting the health and well being of all people in the county and neighboring area. Today, their mission is to affect and facilitate change in systems.

Welding program at NTU awards professional certifications to nine students

CROWNPOINT - The welding program at Navajo Technical University concluded the 2017 fall semester with nine of its students earning their American Welding Society (AWS) certifications and seven graduating with a certificate in Welding Technology.  The students who successfully completed the AWS exam include Ericson Chavez, Shawndell Francis, Elway Gordo, Livia Garcia, Ulrich Morgan, Daryl N. Locals get a look behind the scenes at the making of a sci-fi Hollywood hit

Acclaimed science fiction writer Steven Gould was the special guest speaker at the Octavia Fellin Public Library Jan. 4, during “Sci-Fi Fest,” a weeklong schedule of events in observation of National Science Fiction Day Jan. 2.

Gould, who resides in Albuquerque, is the author of 10 novels, most notably his 1992 release Jumper, which was adapted into film in 2008.

He spoke to the eager crowd about his experience in Hollywood, from the film adaptation of Jumper to working with James Cameron and other writers on the sequels for the 2009 blockbuster Avatar.

The 2018 King Holiday observance will mark the eighty-ninth birthday of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., and the thirty-second anniversary of the national holiday in King’s honor. It is celebrated in some form in more than 100 countries around the world.
