Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez was joined by Vice President Myron Lirez in Many Farms, Ariz. on Sept. 27 as he signed into law the Navajo Nation’s fiscal year 2022 Comprehensive Budget through Resolution CS-49-2, which includes full funding for veterans, prosecutors, and many more direct services for elders, youth, and community needs.



The FY2022 Comprehensive Budget was approved by the 24 Navajo Nation Council by a vote of 18-3 on Sept. 10, and will go into effect on Oct. 1. The three branch chiefs allocated approximately $2.77 million in General Funds for the branches of government.

Home health care is a demanding profession that has been made even harder by the COVID-19 pandemic.

An organization called New Mexico Caregivers in Action was created to address some of the issues facing home health care workers.

Because the wages for these workers are so low, NMCA, a 501©6 non-profit, has provides health insurance, as well as vision, dental and life to caregivers for $15 a year.

In addition to New Mexico, NMCA is offering this same service to people in Arizona.

The Manuelito Children’s Home had plenty to celebrate on Colonel Sanders’ birthday Sept. 9.

The KFC Foundation’s Kentucky Fried Wishes program awarded the home $10,000.

The home was nominated for the grant by local Gallup KFC team members for the work they do within the community. The children’s home plans to use the funds to build a sustainable greenhouse to provide healthy fruits and vegetables for children, giving them a sense of responsibility and resourcefulness.

The Wishes program awarded 11 non profit organizations with $10,000 each in honor of KFC’s famous 11 herbs and spices.

The north side of Gallup may soon be seeing more outdoor activity and tourism.

During the Sept. 14 city council meeting, members of Adventure Gallup and Beyond presented an update for their outdoor recreation project that would be on the north side of Gallup.

The project would cover the land east of the Gallup Flea Market and west of the Gallup Off-Highway Vehicle Park. The northern border includes Navajo Nation land, and the southern boundary runs along Maloney Avenue.

President of AGB Brian Leddy said that this would be a legacy project and could potentially improve the quality of life in Gallup.
