The Gallup City Council took action on a required certification of assets at the Dec. 11 regular meeting.

The item, spoken for by Chief Financial Officer Patty Holland, consisted of a required certification form that accompanies a complete and up-to-date listing of assets inventory for the City of Gallup as of June 30.

The inventory listing sorts the City of Gallup assets into five categories: land, buildings, equipment, infrastructure and miscellaneous improvements. The listing also specifies which city fund is covering the individual items.

Rehoboth McKinley Christian Health Care Services held a community meeting at the Substance Abuse Treatment Center, 650 Vanden Bosch Pkwy in Gallup, Dec. 10 to discuss a new housing project.

According to information provided at the meeting, the Gallup community assembled a grassroots team to develop a 30- to 40-unit Permanent Supportive Housing Project.

Begaye urges quick replacement

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. — As Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke resigned from his position Dec. 15 amid multiple ethics investigations, President Russell Begaye called upon the Trump Administration for a timely replacement.

“Indian Country needs a secretary of the Interior who is knowledgeable of issues that face Native American tribes and who has substantial knowledge of federal Indian policy,” Begaye said. “With so many threats to Native American sovereignty and federal cuts to programs our people depend on, we need a secretary who will truly advocate for our people.”

SANTA FE – The New Mexico Department of Health announced Dec. 17 the first flu-related death reported for the 2018-2019 flu season.

The death occurred in a woman 65-years or older from Lincoln County. Her death is an important reminder that flu can cause serious illness or death, particularly among persons at risk for flu-related complications.

“As flu infections increase across the state, it is important to get vaccinated if you haven’t already received the flu vaccine this season,” DOH Secretary Lynn Gallagher said. “The flu vaccine is the best way for you to protect yourself and your families, especially young children and elderly family members.”
