No injuries reported

Gallup Police received an emergency call from metro dispatch about a plane that landed at Gallup airport.

The front gear collapsed on the plane. No injuries were reported to the dispatch center. The call came in at 12:20 pm May 4. Officers arrived on scene and secured the area.  The Gallup Fire Department and MedStar ambulance were requested to the scene to treat the single occupant who piloted the plane.

At this time the scene has been turned over to the New Mexico State Police.

City and county sign joint planning agreement for N.M. trust lands

The City of Gallup, McKinley County, and the Greater Gallup Economic Development Corporation held a signing ceremony May 6 for a joint planning agreement as a kick-off to the 2019 Economic Development Week.

Patricia Lundstrom, executive director of GGEDC, said the agreement is being signed as a step to foster a resilient homegrown economy.

“I can think of no better way to kick off this important week than to have the state land commissioner here,” she said, describing the commissioner as one of the most dynamic, hard-working individuals she has ever met.

The start of May signals the start of graduation season. High school students across the country are about to be recognized for their achievements and cross the stage to accept their diplomas and complete a formative chapter of their lives.

While this occasion is a happy time for students and their families, attire rules and regulations can seem like an obstacle to self-expression to some students, as was discussed by the Gallup-McKinley County Schools Board of Education during their April 29 meeting.

City Council hears updates on fiscal year budget

Projected amounts for rec centers, fire, police operations

The Gallup City Council recently held a special meeting to hear from numerous city departments about their proposed budgets for the upcoming fiscal year.

A chart included in the April 25 presentation showed the 2018 actual fund expenditures came to about $31 million, an increase over the 2017 expenditures of over $25 million. The projected budget for 2019 was listed at about $28 million.

The presentation also included highlights of the General Fund Expenditures, which include:
