Shiprock man sentenced to prison for attack on infant

ALBUQUERQUE — Myron Benally, 39, of Shiprock was sentenced to 27 months in prison Jan. 3 for injuring a 13-month-old infant that was in his care.

According to an FBI Albuquerque news release, Benally, a registered member of the Navajo Nation, pled guilty in federal court to assault resulting in serious bodily injury Aug. 18.

On June 27, 2019, Benally assaulted the infant, causing serious bodily injury including a broken arm, court documents state.

Upon his release from prison, Benally will be subject to 3 years of supervised release.

The FBI Albuquerque Field Office investigated this case with assistance from the Navajo Police Department and Department of Criminal Investigations. Assistant United States Attorney Mark Probasco is prosecuting the case.
