UPDATE: As of 1 pm, Interstate 40 is no longer closed, although traffic is still moving at a slow rate.
Around 6:30 am Jan. 5, multiple vehicles crashed into each other in the eastbound lane of Interstate 40 near the 47 mile marker.
Multiple semis were involved in the crash. As a result, eastbound I-40 is closed from mile marker 20 to 46.
New Mexico State Police, the New Mexico Department of Transportation, and wrecker services are working to get the debris cleared and road opened as soon as possible.
If you're traveling in the area, expect delays and take the detour that is set up.
