A Tse Bonito man named Gerald Lee has pled guilty to the sexual abuse of a minor.

According to court documents, Lee, 37, and an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, raped a 15-year-old girl at his mother's house within the exterior boundaries of the Navajo Nation on May 15, 2021.

Alexander M.M. Uballez, United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico, and Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office, announced on Aug. 24 that Lee pled guilty to sexual abuse of a minor. Lee will remain in custody pending sentencing, which has not been scheduled.

Lee faces up to 15 years in prison followed by five years of supervised release and must register as a sex offender.

The Gallup Resident Agency of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office and the Navajo Police Department investigated this case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kimberly Bell is prosecuting the case.
