Gallup offers five different rebates for water-saving measures within the city:
Xeriscape Rebate – gives a utility bill credit of $25 for every 100 square feet of irrigated turf replaced with an approved xeriscape. Make sure to apply before doing the project to ensure proper credit.
Rain Barrel Rebate – a $30 utility credit for installing two rain collection barrels.
High-Efficiency Toilet & Showerhead Rebate – offers $100 for the first toilet, $75 for the second and $50 for the third changed out on a given home. Commercial property owners may get $75 for switching out any toilet model older than 1994.
HE Clothes Washer Rebate – Gives $100 credit for replacing a top-loading washer with an approved HE model that has a Consortium of Energy Efficiency Tier rating of 1, 2, or Advanced Tier efficient model.
Refrigerator Rebate -- gives a $30 bill credit for replacing an older refrigerator with a new one that has a CEE Tier rating of 2 or 3 or Energy Star labeled efficient model.
Xeriscape and toilet and showerhead rebates are open to both residential and commercial water users, while rain barrel and household appliance rebates are for residents only.
You must have a City of Gallup utility account to get a credit on utility bills. In some cases you must apply for the rebate before making the change, and be sure to keep receipts!
