The Gallup Fire Department was notified on April 5 that one of its members was placed into custody after charges were filed by the New Mexico Department of Justice. Immediately after learning of the incident the member was placed on Administrative Leave.
In a press release, the City of Gallup and the GFD stated that they are taking the allegations concerning the person seriously. The release also stated that the alleged conduct of this member does not represent the vision or mission of the City of Gallup and the GFD. The press release stated:
"The Gallup Fire Department holds its members to high standards and we have zero tolerance for any potentially unethical behavior.The Gallup Fire Department will continue to earn our most valuable possession, the public’s trust. The City of Gallup and the Gallup Fire Department want to stress that the potential conduct of one member does not reflect upon the professional and outstanding work our members perform on a daily basis."
