Gallup Lock down

Mayor Louie Bonaguidi is hours from taking the helm in Gallup and already he has told the Gallup Sun that Gallup is going into a three-day lock down.

In a conversation with Bonaguidi, he said Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has decided to lock Gallup down for three days.  The actual start time of the lock down has not been made public, but the governor's director of communications told the Sun that the lock down will be announced on May 1 and is expected to start on May 1 and continue through the weekend.

Six major highways into Gallup will also be locked down and staffed with state police officers. The highways have not been identified at this hour.

The decision by the governor came following a letter sent April 30 to her office, requesting a state of emergency be proclaimed. The letter came from Gallup Mayor Jackie McKinney on his final day in that position.

As new details become available, we will post them here.
