ALBUQUERQUE  – The University of New Mexico men’s soccer team has been picked second in Conference USA’s preseason poll done by the league’s coaches. The Lobos received one first-place vote and finished behind Charlotte, which received six.

Juniors Niko Hansen and Chris Wehan were also honored by being voted to the Preseason All-Conference Team. The duo finished one-two in scoring for the Lobos last season, with Wehan leading the way with 10 goals, two assists and 22 points. Hansen added five goals and three assists for 13 points.

What a great last week for baseball fans! The inaugural AABC Willie Mays (9-10 year-old division) Regional World Series in Gallup. Good ball playing by all eight teams, sparkling defense, awesome offense, and a lot of sportsmanship thrown into that mix.

It’s been a while since I’ve visited the Sports Plex, and that was just a brief visit last year to watch Miyamura and Gallup High baseball utilize the large field that fronts the entryway.

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz.– Approximately 60 Navajo youth from Dilkon and nearby communities participated in a five-day bike ride, beginning at Twin Arrows Navajo Casino Resort and ending in the capital of the Navajo Nation to promote methamphetamine and suicide prevention among Navajo youth.

The bike riders concluded their nearly 200-mile long journey at the fairgrounds in Window Rock on Sunday, where they were greeted by members of the Navajo Nation Council and other groups who participated in the annual horse and bike ride event as part of the Summer Council Session.
