After a year in the making, the Disney Pixar animated movie Finding Nemo has been fully translated into Navajo and is ready for its premiere as “Nemo Ha’deist’ii’”

UNM-Gallup Associate Professor Joe Key was instrumental in the success of this long anticipated project.  Professor Kee was also one of the lead translators when Star Wars was translated into Navajo several years ago and he is proud of the work he has done promoting his native culture.

Amber Raye took home the top prize for her tribute to rock legend and actor David Bowie. The Octavia Fellin Library paid tribute to Bowie March 8 by showing the film ‘Labyrinth,’ which stars Bowie. Anyone who came dressed as a Bowie persona, were eligible to win prizes. Bowie, who pushed gender and musical boundaries, passed away after a long battle with cancer Jan. 10. He was 69. GALLUP – About a dozen area folks turned out Feb. 25 to see an oral rendition of Billie Holiday. The event was part of the Octavia Fellin Library’s series of Black History Month presentations.

“It was wonderful,” library Director Mary Ellen Pellington said. “The entire series was attended by dozens of area people.”

Brenda Hollingsworth-Marley of Albuquerque gave an impersonation of Holiday that traced Holiday’s upbringing from Baltimore to New York City. Pellington noted that the event was sponsored by the New Mexico Humanities Council and Department of Cultural Affairs.
