Director Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, Spy) has made some hilariously funny movies with some very talented comics. His latest, Ghostbusters, offers a new take on the beloved 1984 comedy. There’s been a lot of controversy surrounding the production, which now seems surprising, given the ultimate quality of the feature itself. In the end, this is a middling, scattershot effort. It’s passable and there are a handful of chuckles here and there, but the movie feels equally choppy and haphazard in many respects.

Oldest veteran in Gallup cemetery to be honored

On July 23, a memorial service and military ceremony will be held to honor Gallup’s oldest veteran, who is interred at Hill Crest Cemetery. Jose Del los Reyes Bustamante was a veteran of the Civil War who fought in the battle at Valverde.

The ceremony will be held at 10:30 am at Hill Crest Cemetery, located on Aztec Avenue in Gallup. Civil War Historian Jerry Thompson will also be in attendance to help honor this soldier, as well as reenactors and other community volunteers.

The service is open to the public.  There will be a special program/reception following the ceremony at a location to be announced.

Former AD, teacher, coach retires to Albuquerque

CROWNPOINT – Her passion for teaching is surpassed only by her love of the kids she coached, and that’s one of the reasons Crownpoint High School’s Sheri Moore will be missed. Moore, who worked at Crownpoint High for 30 years in various capacities, recently announced her retirement at the end of the 2016 school year.

“Everyday, I felt like I had the best job in the world working with some great kids,” Moore said. “I will miss the interaction with the students and most of my athletes. I don’t know if the realization of retirement will set in until August.”
