Aries (March 21-April 19)

Well, it’s getting hot out there honey, and to boot, you heard a little unsettling news.  Heat + Bad News = Grumpy Goat Holder. Yes, I know, it’s a ram … just a little joke to cheer you up. Chances are if you’re from Gallup you have dabbled in flea market cuisine, and some vendors may roast...

Reduce your risk 100% for STDs

Dear Editor:

Thank you for running the article “A Test for Life” in your May 1, 2015 issue.  Educating our community on the silent STD epidemic in our area is critical.

McKinley County had the highest rates of chlamydia and gonorrhea in New Mexico in 2013.  Statewide, 63% of reported chlamydia cases were among persons aged 15-24, and 48% of reported gonorrhea cases were also from the same age range.

One of the most important sentences in your article was “According to the CDC and New Mexico Department of Health, not having sex is the only way to prevent STDs.”  (That includes vaginal, anal, and oral sex.)  Another way to express it is waiting to have sex until you are in...

Aries (March 21-April 19)

Thinking of gold? Not in terms of taking it to get melted down, but as in “going for the gold.” You’re still reeling from Mercury in retrograde, but it’s time to end the meltdown right now and tackle your next project, even if it just means clearing your work desk of clutter. Next, take an uphill walk with a friend.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

You claim to have psychic abilities, but it’s really good intuition. Someone’s eccentric behavior really bothers you, but everyone else considers him the life of the party. His life is one continuous episode of “Ridiculousness.” Lots of high risk antics, such as skateboarding down stairs. Do it Taurus - tell...

Schaller conducts his own curbside recycling ‘analysis’

PART 3

In fact it can be argued Seattle should be the poster child for curbside failure.  When asked of Seattle’s fees Mr. Parker could only guess at $25.00/month. That gives CDM serious credibility issues. In Gallup we currently pay $15.00 a month and that should be lower considering our location. EPA bureaucrats claim the revenues received for processed commodities offset program costs however the evidence shows the costs of curbside are far greater than the revenue generated. The cost of living in Seattle is bad enough for those of low income without piling on more costs. Recycling regulations have become so intrusive in Seattle citizens have described their curbside program as...

What I could not of would not see before, I see now. Alcohol will never be banned in our drunk city. I am all-one in publicly advocating for the banning of alcohol in McKinley County and the reservation. Zero incumbents or contenders, Indian or non-Indian are for the banning of alcohol. The overwhelming majority of voters and non-voters, Indian and non-Indian are for keeping alcohol legal. Bring on the money and to hell with death and destruction. I finally throw in the towel. I am beaten.

In 1980, at age 45, after 32 years of drinking, I finally quit cold. Too late. Alcohol cost me my first wife and my children. In my guilt and desire to keep others from suffering from what I still...
