Navajo Nation Council passes emergency legislation to ensure continuity of chapter leadership

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. — During a special session held on Dec. 16, the 25th Navajo Nation Council approved emergency Legislation No. 0263-24 to address anticipated leadership vacancies in several chapters following the January inauguration. This measure temporarily suspends provisions of the Navajo Nation Code to allow the appointment of temporary chapter officials to ensure continuity in governance until special elections are held.

Unscheduled water outage for Dec. 19

An unscheduled water outage that is affecting parts of Grandview Avenue and Wilson Avenue started at 1 pm on Dec. 19 and will last until 6 pm.

The outage is affecting City of Gallup water customers in the following areas:

  • 600 block of North Grandview Avenue
  • 300-303 Wilson Avenue
The city's Water Department will be fixing a water leak in the area. Water service will need to be turned off temporarily so they can do their work safely.

Surrounding areas may experience low water pressure.

N.M. child tax credit refunded $132 million to 239,000 households

ALBUQUERQUE — The state of New Mexico returned $132 million to 239,000 households this year via the state’s new Child Tax Credit. The state CTC is the latest in a series of tax credits that New Mexico has enacted, increased or expanded to help New Mexicans who earn the lowest incomes. Navajo Nation Council approves legislation to prevent the reversion of ARPA funds

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. — The 25th Navajo Nation Council passed Legislation No. 0264-24, an emergency measure to ensure that Navajo Nation Fiscal Recovery Funds are fully obligated and expended before the U.S. Treasury’s deadlines of Dec. 31, 2024, and Dec. 31, 2026 on Dec. 16.

Speaker Crystalyne Curley, who sponsored the legislation, and Chair Shaandiin Parrish, who co-sponsored, highlighted the Council’s commitment to expending ARPA funding, emphasizing that the 25th Navajo Nation Council worked diligently to address funding oversight.
