The city's Water Department will be fixing a possible water leak on parts of Boyd Avenue and Francis Street on Jan. 15.  Water service will need to be turned off temporarily so they can do their work safely.

The city's Water Department will be fixing a possible water leak on parts of Boyd Avenue and Francis Street on Jan. 15.  Water service will need to be turned off temporarily so they can do their work safely.

The outage will affect City of Gallup water customers in the following areas:

 

  • 2200—2400 Block of Boyd Avenue (this include the public safety building, which will be closed for the day)
  • 500 Block of Francis Street
The outage is expected to last from 9 am until 5 pm.

Surrounding areas may experience low water pressure.

State sucide rate decreases in key groups in 2023

SANTA FE — New Mexico's 2023 suicide death numbers declined significantly from 2022 among women and Indigenous peoples.

New data released by the New Mexico Department of Health Center for Health Protection show the number of New Mexico women who died by suicide decreased 42% from 116 deaths in 2022 to 67 deaths in 2023. The number of New Mexico American Indian/Alaska Native residents, both male and female, who died by suicide decreased 43% from 77 deaths in 2022 to 44 deaths in 2023.

Overall, the New Mexico suicide death rate decreased 9% in 2023. While the 2023 decline is a positive sign, it does not yet indicate a sustained trend. The state’s suicide death rate is still 9% higher...
