He was born in Gallup on Sept. 4, 1947.

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents: Ralph Rains and Katherine (Kozeliski) Mataya; and his sister, Mary (Rains) Montano of Lakeside, Ariz.

He was followed in death by his sister Susan (Rains) Bridges of Albuquerque and brother John Rains of Gallup. He is survived by Charles Mataya of Gallup; Ralph Montano of Sacramento, Calif; Angela (Montano) Savage of Pa’auilo, Hawaii; Monica (Bridges) Manginell of Albuquerque; Joyce Bridges of Rio Rancho, N.M.; Wayne Montano of Hedgesville, W. Va.; Ana (Mataya) Hudgeons of Gallup; and Matthew Mataya of Albuquerque.
