Miyamura’s Morgan to attend Mount Marty College in S.D.

Miyamura High School’s Yael Morgan will be taking her athletic skills onto the volleyball court next season at Mount Marty College in Yankton, S.D.
The former Lady Patriots superstar signed a letter-of-intent May 19 to attend the Division II institution come August. Morgan is one of a few area student athletes to sign at a four-year school in any sport this summer.
“I’m very happy with my decision,” Morgan said in a telephone interview with the Sun last week. “It’s far. But it is somewhere where I felt comfortable, and is somewhere that I felt was the best option for me.”

Rough Rock’s Lakota Curley to walk on at St. Augustine University in NC

The decision to attend college is a timely one, especially if you’re going there to play sports. Most places prefer prospective student athletes to sign letters-of-intent. Rare is it for schools to hold a spot for someone who has missed a signing deadline or has had a delay in their decision.
That was the case with Rough Rock High School’s Lakota Curley who’ll go to St. Augustine University in Raleigh, NC, next year as a walk-on basketball player with the Lady Falcons. Curley also played volleyball as a student at Rough Rock.

Gallup High Bengal girls dance team hosts Summer Dance Camp

Coaches for the three-day camp, which began on June 13, are the ladies of the award-winning Gallup High Bengal Girls Dance Team, who do an absolutely great job handling all the energy brought to the gym floor by these youngsters. Kristy Tiley is the coach of the GHS team and has directed and choreographed her girls to a multitude of awards over the years past.
