ALBUQUERQUE – Adrian Tom, 38, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation who resides in Church Rock, N.M., was sentenced Sept. 5, in federal court in Albuquerque to 37 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release for his conviction on an abusive sexual contact charge.

Tom will also be required to register as a sex offender when he completes his prison sentence.

On March 29, Tom pled guilty to a felony information charging him with abusive sexual contact with a child under the age of 12 years on the Navajo Indian Reservation in McKinley County. Approaching Munoz Blvd on Aztec Avenue, eastbound, McKinley County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Monty Yazzie saw a white car traveling southbound on the overpass at a high rate of speed. Unable to get a fix with his radar, Yazzie proceeded after the suspect, noticing the vehicle’s tires were going onto the inner yellow line and he could not see a license plate. The emergency lights were then activated and the vehicle turned onto Park Avenue where it came to a stop about a hundred yards east of State Highway 602.

A pedestrian walking in the area of Julie Drive and McKee, in the Mossman area, found an unresponsive male Aug. 29. When paramedics arrived, they confirmed that he was deceased. Gallup Police Department officers responded to the scene at about 8:13 am.

GPD Capt. Marinda Spencer said foul play isn’t believed to be a factor in this case. As of press time, police haven’t released the victim’s name, pending notification of next of kin. It happened almost in the blink of an eye, at 5:33 am Tuesday morning; an alert interstate trucker noticed a pedestrian on I-40 westbound near mile marker 20. With no warning the male walker moved into the right hand lane of traffic and continued into the left hand lane.
