WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. – President Russell Begaye signed a proclamation Oct. 20 declaring the third week of October to be Navajo Nation Disability Awareness Week.

“Despite their contributions to our society, people with disabilities face discrimination and limited access,” President Begaye declared in the proclamation. “This Administration will work to strengthen protections against disability-based discriminations Our people should not fear discrimination in disclosing one’s disability.”

ALBUQUERQUE—Police storage rooms across the United States are reportedly filled with boxes of DNA and other evidence that could help solve rape cases.

Some of those storage rooms are here in New Mexico. Now, at least one elected official and two district attorney hopefuls are speaking up and asking for something to be done.

Washington, D.C.–Congressman Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico’s Third District joined in an effort today to force a vote on the reauthorization of the Export-Import Bank.  Luján signed a discharge petition that would require an up or down vote on legislation to reauthorize the bank once a majority of the House, 218 members, sign on to the petition.  The bank’s charter expired at the end of June after House Republican leaders refused to allow a vote on reauthorization.
