A crash near the Fort Wingate High School campus resulted in the driver, Phillip Brown Jr., 45, being arrested and charged with his third DWI.

Metro Dispatch advised officers of a crash near 500 Shush Dr. in Fort Wingate. McKinley County Sheriff’s Deputy Dominic Molina arrived at the scene and found a black Chevrolet Impala parked near the football field after driving through one fence on the southeast corner of the campus and striking another fence.

Shiprock man sentenced to prison for attack on infant

ALBUQUERQUE — Myron Benally, 39, of Shiprock was sentenced to 27 months in prison Jan. 3 for injuring a 13-month-old infant that was in his care.

According to an FBI Albuquerque news release, Benally, a registered member of the Navajo Nation, pled guilty in federal court to assault resulting in serious bodily injury Aug. 18.

On June 27, 2019, Benally assaulted the infant, causing serious bodily injury including a broken arm, court documents state.

Upon his release from prison, Benally will be subject to 3 years of supervised release.

Man tries to fight officers, spits in their faces

A man is facing assault charges after he threatened to fight police officers when they showed up at his front door.

On Dec. 23 around 1 pm, Gallup Police Officer Darius Johnson was dispatched to 303 Mollica Dr. B. When he arrived at the scene, he found Officer Gabrian Lee speaking with a woman.

The woman said she had called the police department to have someone come check on a man named Jacob Antone.

Lee spoke to Antone, 33, when he answered the residence’s door.

According to Johnson’s report, Antone’s face was very bloody. Lee asked him what happened, but Antone refused to tell him, saying nothing happened.

A Standing Rock man, Cophen Largo, 25, was stopped for driving without a working taillight and was eventually arrested and charged with his third DWI.

New Mexico State Police Patrolman Joe Roanhorse pulled over a green Ford Bronco at the intersection of Chino Loop and U.S. Highway 491 and conducted a traffic stop. He approached the passenger window and met the driver, Largo. As he explained the reason for the stop, Roanhorse reportedly saw Largo show signs of intoxication including bloodshot eyes, smelling of alcohol, and slurred speech.
