Two area men were killed in a two-car accident that occurred north of Gallup on U.S. Highway 491 March 16.
Pronounced dead at the scene were Jordan Harvey, 19, of Tohatchi, and Nathan Damon, 49, of Yah-Ta-Hay.

MCSO officers search for trailer theft suspect
The McKinley County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information on John Howard, 32, who officers believe was involved in the theft of two flat bed trailers from the Thoreau area Feb. 17 and 19.
Howard is roughly 5’8”, weighing 210 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. Officers are also seeking information on the location of Howard’s black Dodge double cab pickup truck, which has a New Mexico license plate numbered 112-TPF.

McKinley County Sheriff’s Dep. Lorenzo Guerrero was working on DWI enforcement on State Highway 118 when he saw a car going well under the posted speed limit. So he followed the car as it turned off onto County Road 1, still going 15 miles per hour in a 25 mph zone.
Guerrero stopped the vehicle and talked to the driver, Smith, 35, of Rehoboth, whom Guerrero said had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. Smith then admitted that she had a few drinks earlier in the evening and agreed to take field sobriety tests.

Ramah man pleads guilty to federal assault charges
ALBUQUERQUE – Patrick Begay, 35, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation who resides in Ramah, N.M., pled guilty March 22, in federal court in Albuquerque to assault charges.
Begay was arrested on Jan. 23, on a three-count indictment charging him with assault with a dangerous weapon, a baseball bat, with intent to do bodily harm; assault with a dangerous weapon, a knife, with intent to do bodily harm; and assault resulting in serious bodily injury. According to the indictment, Begay committed the offenses on May 12, 2017, on the Navajo Indian Reservation in Cibola County, N.M.
During the March 22 hearing, Begay pled guilty to the indictment without the benefit of a plea agreement. ...

Boy shot in connection with crossbow theft
A 14-year-old Gallup boy was in critical condition at a Gallup hospital March 12 after being shot in the stomach in what police say is connected to the theft of a crossbow on March 7.
The name of the juvenile has not been released, since he is a suspect in the theft of the crossbow. The name of the suspect in the shooting also has not been released because he had not been charged as of March 14.
Gallup Police Department Capt. Marinda Spencer did say, however, that the shooting and the burglary are connected.
What is known at this time is that police were dispatched to a house on Parmelee Street around 7 pm on March 7 in connection to a report of a stolen crossbow.
