The McKinley County Board of Commissioners postponed a decision on the funding of the Thoreau Community Center. The act took place at the April 25 county commission meeting and was unanimous.
Priscilla Manuelito, the executive director at the Thoreau Center, told commission members that after the year 2021 that an $800,000 Substance Abuse Mental Health Service Administration grant from runs out and there is no more funding on the horizon. At the moment, there is $200,000 received yearly by the center for the grant, Manuelito said.

Approval relates to Islamic Center
The Gallup City Council unanimously approved the vacation of an easement for the Islamic Center at its April 11 regular meeting. The action was introduced by city water and sanitation director Dennis Romero and was not met with much discussion.
“The Islamic Center is in the process of building an addition to their facility,” Romero told council members. “An abandoned sewer line runs through their property which has a 25-foot public utility easement associated with it. There are no current or future plans to replace this line or place it into service.”
