Eastbound and westbound of Interstate 40 are back open following the derailment fire.

Around 2 pm on April 28, the McKinley County Fire & Rescue Facebook page posted an update saying that both the westbound and eastbound roads of I-40 are now open. Westbound I-40 from mile marker 126 remains open to traffic.  Both lanes from eastbound I-40 from mile marker 333 in Arizona is also open following the April 26 derailment fire near the New Mexico-Arizona state line.

Air monitoring continues around the site and results do not indicate any concern for air quality.

All local, state, federal and tribal public agencies, along with BNSF continue to work together within Unified Command to ensure the safety of the public.

A hotline has been established at (866) 243-4784 for those affected as a result of this derailment.
