The City of Gallup is seeking proposals from area artists to help create an installation dedicated to honoring the legacy of Juan Delgado. Proposals are sought to have an artist create a painting, mural, or another art medium that can be mounted inside of a frame/shadow box. The piece should be approximately 4.5 feet wide and 2 feet tall and designed to be framed or mounted in a shadow box, which will then be mounted on the dining room wall of the planned Gallup Regional Senior Center.

Delgado was a longtime Senior Center director and volunteer who worked tirelessly to support senior citizens and enrich their lives. He enjoyed taking senior citizens on trips around the country on a donated bus, and other international trips. He was also heavily involved in sports, particularly enjoying baseball and basketball. He was also a U.S. Army veteran and enjoyed volunteering as Santa Claus.

Proposals must include the following specifications:

  • Proposal must include a cost breakdown, including materials and labor.
  • Proposal must include a sketch or visual rendering of what the final piece will look like. "Juan Delgado Dining Hall" needs to be written in a prominent, legible style.
  • Incorporated elements need to include baseball, basketball, senior citizens' bus, and U.S. Army symbol.
  • The piece should be on canvas, heavy paper, or another suitable material for mounting in a  frame/shadowbox.
  • The final piece will be mounted below a 6'x2' wooden eagle carved by another local artist.
The submission deadline is 5 pm on March 29. Submissions can be sent electronically to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or mailed/dropped-off at 110 W. Aztec  Avenue, Gallup, NM 87301, ATTN: Matt Robinson.

Artists will be asked to present their proposals in-person on April 1.
