Two men recently died in a crash on Interstate 40.

New Mexico State Police responded to a call about a crash involving three vehicles near mile marker 12 on I-40 near the Arizona border around 9 pm March 25.

The initial investigation indicates that a 2020 Freightliner semi-tractor-trailer driven by Bret Wayne Sackett, 60, of Jordan, Utah was traveling west on I-40. For unknown reasons the Freightliner exited the Interstate at a high rate of speed and collided with the rear of a 2011 GMC Sierra, driven by Jordan Frank, 31, of Twin Lakes, N.M.  The collision pushed the Sierra into a 2017 Volvo semi-tractor trailer.

Sackett and Frank both suffered fatal injuries in the crash and were pronounced deceased on the scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator.  A 59-year-old male passenger in the Freightliner was injured and transported to an area hospital.  His condition is not known.  The driver of the Volvo was not injured.

Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor, and seatbelts were not properly worn.  This crash is being investigated by the NMSP.
