Aggravated DWI (Third)
A Gamerco man, Kurt King, 45, was pulled over for driving with expired registration and eventually arrested for his third DWI.
New Mexico State Police Officer Matthew Williams was patrolling on Highway 118 near Mollica Drive when he observed a gold passenger car of unspecified maker and build. He ran the vehicle’s license plate and the system returned that its registration was expired.
After pulling the vehicle over to conduct a traffic stop, Williams met the driver, King, and began his questioning. King reportedly showed signs of intoxication including bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, smelling of alcohol, and also appeared slow, unresponsive, and gazing off into the distance as Williams spoke to him. A search of the vehicle also revealed a 40 oz. container of 80 proof whiskey in the backseat.
King exited the vehicle on command, telling Williams he heading home after visiting a friend. He reportedly admitted consuming a bottle and a half of whiskey prior to driving. He then agreed to take the Standard Field Sobriety Tests, however, he performed poorly and was placed under arrest.
Williams transported King to the local state police office for the breath test, where King posted samples of .19 and .17. King was then taken to McKinley County Adult Detention Center and booked for aggravated DWI (third), no registration, revoked license, and open container. His pretrial hearing is set for Jan. 30.
