The main topic of the discussion on this day was the ability of veterans to take better care of themselves. Some do, but the majority doesn’t. Ensuring that veterans continue to receive the healthcare promised
Congressional Research Service, which provides analysis for Congress, issued a 2003 report that found veterans were not entitled to free medical care for life, even though they may have been promised exactly that by their recruiters.
Since 1956, veterans and their families can be treated at military medical facilities “subject to the availability of space and facilities and the capabilities of the medical and dental staff,” the report found.

KIDS COUNT Report: NM has highest rate of child poverty in nation
ALBUQUERQUE—New Mexico has seen some improvement in child well-being—particularly in teen birth rates and on-time high school graduation rates—but not everything is looking up. The state now has the highest rate of child poverty in the nation, according to the 2015 New Mexico KIDS COUNT report, which is set for release at a press conference this morning. An informative group of speakers attended the Veterans helping Veterans meeting on Jan. 15.Clarence Gallegos represented Eagle Talon, LLC, connecting veterans with disabilities to services at the NM Division of Vocational Rehab, while Felicia Adams spoke for her campaign to replace State Senator George Munoz. Marian Saucedo Hall brought in one of her artists, a woodcarver, from the LBM Rec Center to display his work, Brian Lee spoke as a representative for U.S. Representative Ben Lujan, and Martin Link closed out the speakers with an update on the Gallup Museum of Military History.
