Tohatchi man sentenced to 13 months in prison

A Tohatchi man is facing 13 months in jail after he drove while under the influence of alcohol and killed a man.

According to court documents, on Nov. 2, 2022, Donovan Henry was driving east on Route 134 in Sheep Springs, New Mexico, with two passengers when he lost control of his vehicle. The car went off the two-lane road and flipped when it hit a boulder. All three occupants were ejected. A Navajo Police officer arrived to find 40-year-old Henry underneath the vehicle and his two passengers lying on the ground near the vehicle.

PHOENIX — Members of the 25th Navajo Nation Council and Speaker Crystalyne Curley advocated to Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes to continue prosecuting offenders who victimize tribal members through fraudulent sober living homes in Phoenix and surrounding cities on Jan. 9.

Curley asked Mayes for updates and support in addressing the fraudulent sober living homes that targeted Native Americans and allegedly scammed the state out of hundreds of millions of dollars intended for health care benefits.

SANTA FE — Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham unveiled her public safety legislative agenda at the State Capitol on Jan. 12.

"This is, without a doubt, the largest and most comprehensive public safety package in our state’s history,” she said. “Gun violence is a significant contributor to the cycles of crime in our communities and will continue to use every tool at our disposal to end this epidemic. Likewise, we will strengthen our support for law enforcement, increase penalties for violent crimes, and once again pursue legislation to keep violent offenders behind bars pending trial. UNM-Gallup literary arts journal now accepting submissions for 2024

The 2023 digital edition of “Red Mesa Review,” the literary arts journal of The University of New Mexico-Gallup, has been published online and is now available to read.

“Red Mesa Review” features poetry, short fiction and essays by various authors and voices in the West Central Plateau and Four Corners region. The digital edition is currently available on the UNM-Gallup website, and physical copies are expected to be available in January.
